However, there is potential for substantial
redevelopment during the afternoon across northern IL/IN into the
lower OH Valley, provided that sufficient heating can occur. While
any afternoon storms would pose a threat of at least isolated
damaging wind and hail, potential exists for favorable low/midlevel
flow fields to develop across northern IL/northwest IN, where a
couple supercells may develop with an associated threat of a tornado
or two. Portions of the area may eventually require an upgrade,
depending on shorter-term observational and guidance trends.

Ok. I will see when I get off work. I am hoping to chase with @Jonathan DeGraw (IN) , but if he can't make it I will try to link up with you, caravan, if thats ok with you. Don't wait on me though, I will be there by 2:00 cdt at the earliest.
This setup is right in my wheelhouse
Ed Tierney (Oak Lawn, IL)09-Aug-21 10:26 AM
I might not have to leave home at this rate
Joey Prom (Lafayette, IN)09-Aug-21 10:27 AM
I am thinking near Rockford as a good initial intercept point. If I could be there at 2:00 cdt I would. As it stands I will be lucky to get there by 3 cdt. Hopefully initiation is delayed a bit. Its the kind of day to jump on stuff early.
Matthew Gaylor (OKC, OK)09-Aug-21 10:42 AM
Today looks good with my limited look at it.
Just need storms to stay discrete.
Got a low that’s in an environment that’s typically like an MCV(edited)
Joey Prom (Lafayette, IN)09-Aug-21 10:49 AM
Going to be NP but very slow moving supercells. So, once the cold pool gets formed nothing will be able to stay prefrontal. But, That may be held off for a while, due to a more southerly supercell motion.
Jonny Glessner (Ohio)09-Aug-21 10:55 AM
Yeah I think we could probably squeeze a two hour window of semi discreet modes
Drake Anthony (Peoria, IL)09-Aug-21 11:35 AM
I like a chase where the storms more or less chase me home from my target
Looks like that's how it's going to be today

The upper level support is very tenuous. But the low level shear and thermals should be good to very good.

If anyone will be attempting metro chasing, do not use 294 unless it looks ok on maps traffic. Use 355 as your N/S option if possible. Monday lately has been the best of the PM rush hours for the work week so you might luck out in sections
Diego Garcia (DeKalb, IL - NIU)09-Aug-21 12:36 PM
@Ed Tierney (Oak Lawn, IL) excellent advice. I’m using 355 and 88

4 tors today. Doubled my lifetime total in 4 hours.
Jonathan DeGraw (IN)09-Aug-21 08:31 PM
Hey @Norman Smith (Racine, OH) and @Jonny Glessner (Ohio), @Joey Prom (Lafayette, IN) would like to know if you'd to meet up for steak after the chase??
Jonny Glessner (Ohio)09-Aug-21 08:32 PM
I gotta head home
Got at least 4 tornadoes today. Career chase for me so far
Jonathan DeGraw (IN)09-Aug-21 08:33 PM
We got at least two, maybe three
Nathan M (Neosho, Mo)09-Aug-21 08:33 PM
I’m glad you Midwest guys are getting some storms. Bring it back down south next year

All the IL people had career days. Feels so good to score on a day like this.
So happy for all you IL folks, wish I could've been there
Drake Anthony (Peoria, IL)
i'll figure it out when I pull my GPS coordinates
Joey Prom (Lafayette, IN)10-Aug-21 11:08 AM
I am glad I left GPS and fixed the timestamp on my dashcam at the start of the chase. Yesterday overperformed like nothing I have ever chased before. That Sycamore Sig was the most incredible weather event I have ever witnessed. The way it was chucking those trees up hundreds of feet, along with those very large sections of sheet metal. scary!
Norman Smith (Racine, OH)
They’re lucky some of those helix’s didn’t hit their home
Joey Prom (Lafayette, IN)10-Aug-21 11:09 AM
I saw some of them yesterday. I also saw my first power flash.
Yesterday was my career defining day so far. I thought I was going to be late and miss the show. When that Rockford cell was dying down and nothing else was happening I was sure I was going to bust. But that instability gradient nosed in from the south along with the LLJ. Then IL warm front did IL warm front.
Close Range, Damaging Tornado!
This was the beginning of the Sycamore, IL tornado yesterday on August 9. A full video of this tornado can be expected later today! #ilwx @AaronRigsbyOSC @aaronjayjack @ReedTimmerAccu @JimCantore @spann https://t.co/eENBC4pVGp

Great job man, definitely a shot of the year for you, but probably not a shot of a lifetime.
You are now officially a big dog. Any shot you get will probably garner a couple thousand views minimum, you’ll probably have even more viral content in the future. Just keep up the hard work man and it will keep paying off!
Being at work, it’s basically impossible trying to keep up with / like / retweet / congratulate all of the awesome chasers and their videos from today. That was some amazing close range stuff from everyone! Wow and congratulations to you all I’m definitely a bit jealous!
Illinois had an active day yesterday with multiple damaging tornadoes. Here is a quick recap.

I managed to get most of the chase on my DSLR, but all of our in car conversation and the rain wrapped multivortex was only on my dashcam
I am not sure if it is breaking, or if Jonny did not properly turn it back on

my front dash cam or the memory card shit the bed mid way through my chase yesterday
Joey Prom (Lafayette, IN)10-Aug-21 11:13 PM
Basically the same for me. Got a timelapse of my drive, then it corrupted 2 files, then nothing
Drake Anthony (Peoria, IL)10-Aug-21 11:14 PM
the last frame it captured is pretty badass though
my rear dashcam caught a ton of stuff though. i'm super happy I put one of those in

Drake Anthony (Peoria, IL)10-Aug-21 11:14 PM
are the corrupted files big? they might be repairable
Joey Prom (Lafayette, IN)10-Aug-21 11:15 PM
They are decent enough. How should I go about attempting to repair?
Drake Anthony (Peoria, IL)10-Aug-21 11:15 PM
i mean are they big in size?
Joey Prom (Lafayette, IN)10-Aug-21 11:16 PM
Yea, I don't know off the top of my head, but I saved them
Drake Anthony (Peoria, IL)10-Aug-21 11:16 PM
if the size of the file is big like a normal video file, there's a good chance data can be recovered from them
there are lots of ways to go about that if you want to attempt that. i'm no expert on it, but i've been able to salvage video files with VLC media player by following some tutorials online. there is also dedicated video repair software out there
Joey Prom (Lafayette, IN)10-Aug-21 11:20 PM
I will give it a shot. I also plan to reformat my SD card before I try recording again with the dashcam. Maybe that will fox it
